PUSH

★Hollywood scenes of adrenalin fuelled birth rooms, bright lights and teams of medics yelling “PUSH” are all too prevalent. Despite a popular theme in TV births, it is actually very rare for your baby to be sneezed out in the car park or to practically kill you. We are prepping our women for disaster. Tokophobia (fear of childbirth) is on the rise. The parallels between making babies and birthing babies are very close. Women who fail to feel safe and loved, who fail to reach a point of neocortical inhibition, safety and oblivion, will struggle to release enough oxytocin to reach the point of orgasm or to labour successfully to the point of natural birth. This satire comedy is a reminder of how close the parallels should be between making and birthing babies. Both are a labour of love.

STOLEN FISH

In the smallest country of mainland Africa, The Gambia, fish is now being powdered up by Chinese corporations and exported to Europe and China to feed animals in industrial farming. As a result, Gambians are being deprived of their primary source of protein and overfishing is depleting marine ecosystems. The film follows Abou, Mariama and Paul, three Gambians who share intimate stories of daily struggle, anger, hope and longing for their loved ones in the midst of difficult migration routes. The first film on Gambia’s fishmeal factories, offering a unique insight into untold drivers of migration and the role played by women in new economic systems.
